Sakyasingha Mahapatra: Founder of SakRobotix Lab

This is the story of a “teacher” and an “ accidental entrepreneur”, who offers robotics courses accessible to anyone with an internet connection. Despite initial doubts, Sakyasingha Mahapatra Overcoming skepticism, helped establish Sakrobotix.

His vision is simple — to give people from every corner, every village a chance to learn robotics.

Growing up in a cozy yet affectionate home within Odisha’s tribal village of Aunli, @Sakyasingha Mahapatra drew inspiration from his father Suresh, whose ardor for science left a deep imprint.

As the headmaster of a local secondary school, Suresh actively encouraged his son’s curiosity, urging his participation in diverse science exhibitions and even collaborated on projects together. And not only this, even The walls of their home were adorned with over a decade’s worth of newspaper clippings from the science section, collected since 1981, accompanied by Suresh’s annotations and analyses.

Sadly, Suresh’s demise when Sakyasingha was just 17, left him shattered and uncertain. Wrestling with grief and financial instability, Sakyasingha contemplated abandoning his dream of engineering.

He struggled to choose between supporting his family or pursuing his passion. However, driven by his father’s aspirations, Sakyasingha embarked on a journey that led him to various cities.

Despite challenges, he pursued education, initially enrolling in a polytechnic diploma course in Jeypore. To make ends meet, he started offering private tuition and repairing electronics.

Subsequently, he received computer hardware training and even ventured into fixing computers. With his family’s improved financial situation and encouragement from professors in Chennai, Sakyasingha delved deeper into learning.

At an exhibition, he encountered a robot, sparking his fascination with robotics. His passion for robotics led him to extensive library hours, seeking deeper knowledge. This sparked a desire to teach robotics.

Despite initial doubts, he approached the café owner and requested permission to distribute pamphlets about his robotics classes. Overcoming skepticism, he received a positive response, leading him to establish Sakrobotix.

In 2012, his vision expanded further as he launched an online portal, offering robotics courses accessible to anyone with an internet connection.

He designed courses that seamlessly combined theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical sessions. Equipping his labs with electronic components, 3D printers, and tools, Sakrobotix aimed to make robotics education truly experiential.

The impact of Sakrobotix’s work reaches far and wide, with courses now conducted in 10 government ITIs and 10 government polytechnics across Odisha.

Through unwavering determination and a commitment to accessible education, Sakyasingha is paving the way for a future where robotics education is within reach for all.
