The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) 2027 in two sessions: in January 2027 and April 2027. The exam will be conducted for admission to UG engineering courses offered by IITs, NITs and CFTIs.

Many private institutes also accept JEE Main scores for admission to BTech and BE courses.

Candidates need to note that the JEE Main is the qualifying exam for the JEE Advanced through which admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are offered.

If you are preparing for JEE Main 2027, you can find all the important details and updates, including application process, dates, eligibility to apply, pattern, syllabus and others related to the exam, on this SciAstra blog.

What is JEE Main?

The Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE Main) is an entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes offered by NITs, IITs, CFTIs, and institutions/universities funded or recognised by state governments in India.

  • The JEE Main consists of two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2.

  • Paper 1 is held for undergraduate engineering programmes offered by NITs, IITs, CFTIs, and institutions/universities funded or recognised by state governments.

  • JEE Main Paper 2 is conducted for admission to the Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) and Bachelor of Planning (BPlan) courses in India.

  • Candidates need to note that JEE Main is the eligibility test for JEE Advanced, which is conducted for admission to IITs. Therefore, as we mentioned earlier, the JEE Main is also held for admission to IITs.

  • People often refer to both JEE Main Paper 1 and Paper 2 collectively as "JEE Mains".
