National Science Challenge 2026: Want to test your science knowledge and discover whether you have simply memorised concepts or can apply them critically and analytically? Put your understanding to the test with the National Science Challenge 2026 (NSC 2026).

It is an opportunity to assess your strengths, identify gaps in your understanding and recognise the reasoning skills you need to develop for upcoming competitive examinations.

Organised by SciAstra Foundation in partnership with the Science and Technology Council (STC), IISER Thiruvananthapuram, this online science and aptitude challenge welcomes students of Classes 9–12 and droppers.

Through questions focused on mental ability and scientific reasoning, NSC encourages you to think beyond familiar textbook problems. Top performers can earn cash prizes and merit recognition, while winners and runners-up will be invited for felicitation and academic exposure at IISER Thiruvananthapuram.

What Is the National Science Challenge?

The National Science Challenge is a pan-India online science and aptitude quiz designed to assess scientific reasoning, mental ability and the application of concepts to unfamiliar problems.

It encourages students to think beyond factual recall. Understanding why something happens, identifying relationships and applying knowledge in a new situation are central to the challenge.

Students participate in five categories: Class 9, Class 10, Class 11, Class 12 and droppers. Each category has a defined syllabus level, allowing students to prepare according to their academic stage.

NSC 2026 builds on SciAstra Foundation’s experience with the Young Scientist Challenge 2026, conducted in collaboration with Naturalists at IISc Bengaluru.

Who Is Conducting NSC 2026?

SciAstra Foundation is conducting NSC 2026 in partnership with the Science and Technology Council (STC), IISER Thiruvananthapuram, also commonly referred to as IISER Trivandrum or IISER TVM.

STC is a student-led body at IISER Thiruvananthapuram that promotes scientific engagement through academic activities, outreach and interaction with the wider science community.

Its involvement brings a research-oriented perspective to the initiative, encouraging students to explore scientific ideas and possible academic pathways in science.

Why Should Students Participate in NSC 2026?

For students interested in science, the value of the challenge extends beyond the final score.

Apply Science Beyond Classroom Questions

NSC encourages students to use familiar concepts in unfamiliar situations. This can help them recognise the difference between remembering an explanation and understanding how to apply it.

Practise Scientific Reasoning

The combination of mental ability and scientific reasoning gives students an opportunity to analyse information, identify connections and work through problems.

Experience a National Competition

Participating alongside students from across India offers a wider academic platform and an opportunity to approach a timed assessment independently.

Earn Recognition for Performance

Cash prizes and certificates recognise strong performance within each participation category.

Explore a Research-Oriented Environment

Through its partnership with STC, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, the challenge encourages interest in scientific exploration. Category winners and runners-up receive the additional opportunity of campus-based academic exposure and felicitation.

For schools, NSC can also help identify students with strong scientific aptitude and encourage academic engagement beyond routine lessons.

Conclusion

The National Science Challenge 2026 is your opportunity to discover how confidently you can apply scientific concepts, reason through unfamiliar problems and think analytically. Whether you want to identify gaps in your understanding, challenge yourself nationally or earn recognition for your abilities, NSC offers a meaningful way to put your learning into practice. With cash prizes and an invitation for winners and runners-up to attend felicitation and academic exposure at IISER Thiruvananthapuram, there is plenty to work towards
