IISc Admission: Step-by-Step Guide for Science Student after 12th

IISc Bangalore 2025 Step by step Admission !

So, you’ve just finished your 12th or will be appearing for the board exams in 2025? If you’ve been eyeing the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore — yes, the one with the sprawling green campus and a legacy of excellence — here’s your golden opportunity.

This guide will walk you through everything: eligibility, how to apply, scholarships, and even a few little-known tips to give you an edge.

Stay tuned!

Bachelor of Science (Research) – 2025

Let’s start with the flagship four-year BS (Research) program. If you’re someone who thrives on curiosity, and sees science not just as a subject, but a way of thinking — this one’s for you.

Who can apply?

  • Students who completed their Class 12 (or equivalent) in 2023 or 2024, or are appearing in 2025.
  • Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics must be your core subjects — no skipping those!
  • You’ll need to have scored at least 60% marks (or first class). For SC/ST students, simply passing will do.

Selection Route

Admission hinges on one of two exams:

  • JEE Advanced 2025
  • IAT 2025 (IISER Aptitude Test)

Perform well in either, and you could be walking through the gates of IISc.

Total Seats: 138

  • 111 regular seats
  • 22 supernumerary seats exclusively for women
  • 5 seats for foreign nationals or OCI/F card holders

Key Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Your board must be recognized by COBSE (Council of Boards of School Education).
  • If you’re a foreign national, make sure to get an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities. This will be needed during counselling.
  • Applied before your results are out? You’ll need to update your rank within 3 days once the results are declared. No excuses!

Reservations? Yes, as per Government norms. That includes SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwD, and even provisions for Kashmiri Migrants and Pandits. Also, women applicants can avail an additional 20% supernumerary quota.

Scholarships Galore!

Every student admitted to IISc is eligible for financial support. Depending on how you got in, you may qualify for the INSPIRE scholarship or the IISc Promotional Scheme (IIScP). And that’s not all — top business houses and government agencies also chip in with funding.

Bachelor of Technology in Mathematics & Computing – 2025

Fancy yourself as someone who loves math and can think in algorithms? The BTech in Mathematics and Computing is designed just for that intersection of logic and innovation. And guess what? It’s rapidly becoming one of the most coveted programs at IISc.

Who’s eligible?

  • Appeared for Class 12 (or equivalent) in 2023, 2024, or 2025
  • Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are mandatory in your first attempt
  • Now comes the tricky bit — you must fulfill one of these two conditions:
    1. Scored 75% or more (65% for SC/ST/PwD) in Class 12.
    2. Ranked in the top 20 percentile of your board (category-wise).

What counts for percentile?

These 5 subjects:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • A language (best score, if you took more than one)
  • One more subject — your top scorer among the rest

Total Seats: 52

  • 40 regular seats
  • 8 supernumerary for women
  • 4 seats for foreign nationals/OCI

How to Apply?

  • Online Applications Open: 01 May to 06 June 2025
