If you’re the kind of student who stares at the stars and wonders why they burn—or opens up a circuit just to see what’s inside—then hold on, because this might just be your moment. The Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), a name steeped in legacy and discovery, is now accepting applications for its prestigious 5-Year Integrated BS-MS Program in Science for the 2025 batch.
And no, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill B.Sc. This is something else. Something more alive. More curious. More you.
So, why IACS? Why now?
Let’s rewind for a second. Founded in 1876, IACS isn’t just old—it’s historic. The same campus where C.V. Raman discovered the Raman Effect (and eventually took home a Nobel Prize) is still buzzing with research today. It’s not just a university—it’s a crucible of ideas.
As a deemed university under the de novo category, IACS doesn’t just teach science; it lives it. Think high-quality academics mixed with real, cutting-edge research. And here’s the kicker—by the time you hit your fourth year, you’re eligible for a stipend. Yes, they pay you to do research.
What’s New in the 2025 Intake?
Brace yourself—things are shifting.
- Math is mandatory in your 10+2. No workarounds.
- The entrance test goes full Computer-Based. Say goodbye to pen and paper.
- Stipends kick in from Year 4 (eligibility applies).
- Exit flexibility is built in: Diploma, BS, or ride it through to MSc + PhD. Your pace, your path.
IACS UPST 2025:
- Eligibility
- 12th grade in Science stream? You’re in the race.
- Math must be one of your subjects.
- Scored at least 60%? You pass the academic filter (relaxation for reserved categories, of course).
- The Exam
Date: 7th June 2025
Mode: CBT (Computer-Based Test)
Sections:
- Compulsory: Physics, Chemistry, Math – 20 questions each (2 marks per question)
- Optional: Choose one – Biology or Computer Science – 20 questions (2 marks each)
Negative Marking: -0.66 per wrong answer. Accuracy counts.
- The Selection Process
First, you crack the written test. Then, if you’re shortlisted, you’ll face an interview. The final merit list? It’s a combo of your scaled written score and interview performance.
Did we mention? Only 80 seats. It’s not a crowd—it’s a cohort.
A Glimpse Into the Program
The first three semesters? They’ll introduce you to everything—Physics, Chemistry, Math, Comp Sci, and Biology. It’s a buffet of scientific disciplines. But by the fourth semester, you pick a major and go deeper:
Physics. Chemistry. Biological Sciences. Mathematics. Computer Science. Your choice, your future.
Then comes the magic—from the 7th semester, you’re in a lab, not a classroom. Real research. Real impact.
How Should You Prepare?
Let’s be honest—this isn’t about cramming. It’s about understanding.
- Start with NCERT Class 11 & 12. Master the basics.
- Practice MCQs like your score depends on it—because it does.
- Factor in that negative marking. Precision is key.
- Try online mock tests. Get comfortable with CBT. Time matters. Accuracy matters more.
One Last Thing…
This isn’t just an exam. It’s an invitation. To explore. To question. To break things apart and put them back together again with a clearer understanding.
If you’re ready to dive into the unknown with a curious mind and steady hands, IACS might just be where your scientific story begins.
Stay curious. Stay driven.
And maybe—just maybe—we’ll see you on that final list.
