IISc Admission: Step-by-Step Guide for Science Student after 12th

Indian Institute of Science(IISC), Bangalore offers admission to its Four-year Bachelor of Science (Research) and Bachelor of Technology Programme in 2025 after completing 12th. 

Students who will appear for the 12th standard board examination (or equivalent) in 2025 and those who have passed this examination in 2023 or 2024 are eligible to apply for admission to this Programme.

Admission to the Bachelor of Science (Research) Programme – 2025 at IISC Bangalore

Eligibility:

Selection procedure: Selection will be based on any of the exam either JEE (Advanced) 2025 or IAT 2025.

(a) Candidates who have Completed their 10+2 (or equivalent) examination in 2023,2024 and also those who are expecting to complete their 10+2 (or equivalent) examination in 2025.

(b) The candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as main subjects in their qualifying exam along with any other subjects.

(c) The candidates must have secured a first-class or 60% or equivalent grade (relaxed to pass class for SC/ST candidates) in the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or equivalent)

Total Intake: 138

Breakup: [111+ 22 (20% of supernumerary seats for females) + 5 (Foreign nationals/OCI(F))].

Important points to Keep in mind!

  1. The candidates must have passed the Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any board recognized by the Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) in India. Foreign Nationals need to upload an equivalence certificate issued by the Association of Indian Universities unless they have passed the Class XII or equivalent level examination from any board recognized by the Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) in India. The equivalence certificate must be provided at the time of admission Counselling. 
  2. Applicants who have applied before the declaration of results must log in and update rank details within 03 days after the result announcement.
  3. Reservation/concession/relaxations for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Person with disability (PwD) and Kashmiri-Migrant (KM), Kashmiri Pandits/Kashmiri Hindu Families (Non-Migrants) living in the Kashmir Valley: as per Government of India regulations.
  4. 20% Supernumerary Quota over and above the approved intake for the program will be provided to women candidates.
  5. A minimum of “Pass Class” in the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or equivalent) is required for SC/ST students.
  6. Applicants applying under the EWS and OBC(as per the central list of OBC available at www.ncbc.nic.in )category must ensure that they have the valid EWS/OBC-NCL Certificates issued on or after 01 April 2025 (i.e., valid in FY:2025-26) by 30 June 2025.
  7. Scholarships: All the students who join the Institute are eligible for a scholarship from the INSPIRE/IISc Promotional Scheme (IIScP), depending upon their mode of entry. Scholarships from many Indian and multinational agencies and business houses are also available for meritorious students. The scholarship amount may vary for different scholarship agencies as per norms.
  8. The applicants are advised to visit the Four-year Bachelor of Science (Research) programme website at https://bs-ug.iisc.ac.in/news.html and the admissions portal, frequently for all admission-related updates.

How to Apply?

Application Forms (available only online): The online application may be prepared and submitted by accessing the IISc Admission website during 01 May 2025 to 06 June 2025. 

The application fee is Rs. 500/- for GN/OBC/KM candidates and Rs. 250/- for SC/ST/PWD categories.

Payment of the Application Fee: Payment option: Online Payment – Net-banking, Visa Card/ Mastercard, Debit/Credit Cards/UPI.

Admission to the Bachelor of Technology (Mathematics & Computing) Programme – 2025 at IISC Bangalore

Eligibility:

Selection procedure: Selection will be based on the JEE (Advanced) 2025 Ranks.

The candidates should have appeared for the class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2023,2024 or 2025, where Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are compulsory subjects in the first appearance. In addition, they must satisfy at least one of the following;

  1. Must have passed and secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PwD candidates should be at least 65%.
  2. Must be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination.

The marks scored in the following five subjects will be considered for calculating the aggregate and cut-off marks for fulfilling the top 20 percentile criterion.

  1. Physics
  2. Chemistry

iii. Mathematics

  • A language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language

with the higher marks will be considered)

  • Any subject other than the above four (the subject with the highest

marks will be considered).

The admission portal for the B.Tech. (Mathematics and Computing) programme is now open. The last date to submit applications is 06 June 2025.
