What is the Pattern of IISER Aptitude Test 2025?
The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research—better known as IISERs—aren’t just another set of colleges. IAT 2025: What’s the Exam All About?
The paper has 4 sections that contains: 60 questions, with 15 questions from each Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics section.
- Mode: CBT (Computer-Based Test)
- Total Questions: 60
- Sections: 4 (Each with 15 questions)
- Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes)
- Total Marks: 240
- Language: Hindi & English
- Marking Scheme:
- Correct answer: +4 marks
- Incorrect answer: -1 mark
- Unanswered: 0 marks
Seems straightforward, right? But remember, it’s not just about answering correctly—it’s about choosing wisely. Guessing? Risky business.
Even then, getting a rank doesn’t automatically guarantee admission.

- IISER Tirupati started the 4-Year BS in Economic & Statistical Sciences.
- The newly offered course at IISER Bhopal is the 4-Year B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering, Data Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science.

Admission Process: How Do You Get In?
Let’s get real for a second. No backdoors here. IAT 2025 is the only entry gate.
Once the results are out, here’s what happens:
1. Online Counselling Only
No travel, no queues. Submit your preferences online.
2. Seat Allocation Depends On:
- Your IAT rank
- Your preference order (choose wisely!)
- Your category
- Available seats
3. Acceptance Fee (Non-Refundable Portion Included)

| SC/ST | ₹17,500 (₹12,500 refundable + ₹5,000 fee) |
Choose FREEZE if you love the seat you’ve been given. Choose FLOAT if you’re aiming higher. But be careful—if you don’t make a choice, you’re out. No second chances.
4. Key Counselling Rules:
- If you FLOAT and get upgraded, your old seat vanishes.
- Didn’t select a preference? You’re not considered.
- Don’t lie. Seriously. False documents = immediate cancellation.

Other Institutions That Accept IAT 2025
Yes, IISERs are amazing—but that’s not all. The IAT 2025 score will also be used by:
- IISc Bangalore for its B.Sc. (Research) program
- IIT Madras for its BS in Medical Sciences & Engineering
But don’t forget: If you’re aiming for these, you MUST do two things:
- Apply through the IISER portal
- Apply separately through the IISc/IITM websites
Their rules might be different. So read them. Carefully.
