1.Understand the Exam Pattern

ISI Exam:
- It includes multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and Descriptive Questions.
- There will be a total of two sections as Section A and Section B in the question paper.
- Time Duration: Two hours will be provided to every candidate for solving the examination.
- Marking Scheme: The marking scheme will be different for every course.
- The syllabus of ISI will be different for every offered course. The Syllabus of UG courses will consist of various topics from the 11th and 12th academic syllabus. Whereas the syllabus of PG courses will consist of various topics from the related undergraduate courses.

CMI Exam:

One of the best ways to get comfortable with the ISI & CMI exams is by solving previous year’s papers. This helps you get familiar with the exam’s format, time management, and types of questions.
Tip: Start by solving easier questions, and as you progress, work on tougher problems. Time yourself while solving them to simulate actual exam conditions.

3. Time Management is Key
Both exams have a time limit, and managing it wisely is essential. You’ll need to balance speed and accuracy. The best way to improve your speed is through consistent practice.
Tip: While solving problems, set time limits for each question. During the exam, if you get stuck on a question, move on and come back to it later.
4. Practice Regularly and Stay Consistent
It’s better to study regularly and consistently than to cram at the last minute. Set small, achievable goals each day. This will help you stay on track and reduce stress as the exam approaches.
Tip: Use the “Pomodoro Technique”—study for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. This keeps your mind fresh and productive.
Common Mistakes Students Make in ISI & CMI Exams
- Skipping Revision Students often ignore revision in favor of learning new topics, which leads to forgetting crucial concepts. This can seriously affect your performance.
Allocate specific time each week just for revision. Make sure to go over previously learned topics regularly. - Overloading with Information Trying to cover too many topics at once can overwhelm you. Quality preparation always beats quantity. Stick to a few quality resources and focus on mastering them. Don’t rush; deep understanding matters more than just covering everything.
- Ignoring Logical Reasoning Logical reasoning sections often get less attention, but they are critical to scoring well. Regularly practice logical puzzles and reasoning questions. They help develop sharp thinking and improve speed.
- Cramming Last Minute Cramming the night before the exam doesn’t help retain information and often leads to stress and mistakes during the exam. Start early, break your study into manageable sessions, and leave enough time for thorough revision before the exam.
- Not Practicing Time Management Many students struggle with time management during the exam, spending too much time on one question. Practice time-bound mock tests. Get comfortable solving questions within the allotted time.
