The NISER campus is situated on 300 acres of land, generously donated by the people of Odisha, in Jatni town, 25 km from the centre of the city of Bhubaneswar. The Institute started functioning from the current campus in July 2015, nine years since 28th August 2006, when the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Dr. Manmohan Singh, announced the proposal for its establishment. The institute was officially founded on 6th September 2007 after the approval of the Union Cabinet. This day is celebrated as the foundation day of the institute. The academic programme was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Orissa – Shri Naveen Patnaik, on 10th September 2007 at the Institute of Physics campus. The Institute at the Jatni campus was formally inaugurated on February 7, 2016.
University of Mumbai – DAE CEBS Campus
The Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (CEBS) is a residential campus located within the verdant Vidyanagari Campus of the University of Mumbai, with accommodation and boarding provided for all students.
Students at CEBS are nurtured within a rich cultural and scientific environment. Besides intensive involvement in stimulating academic work, including field trips and project visits, CEBS students also have time for sports, cultural and other enriching activities.
CEBS has state-of-the-art infrastructure in both the prefabricated and newly constructed permanent structures.
At present, these structures house modern, well-equipped research laboratories, a library and computer facilities. CEBS offices and laboratories are at three different locations within the Vidyanagari Campus.

| NISER offers two types of PhD programmes, PhD and Integrated PhD. Candidates can pursue a PhD at NISER Bhubaneswar after Master’s Degree. Candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s Degree can apply for the Integrated PhD at the institute. This programme is a combination of an MSc and a PhD. Candidates are shortlisted based on the eligibility criteria of the respective schools of NISER and/or scores in the national examinations such as CSIR-UGC-NET/GATE/JEST/GPAT/DBT/ICMR/JGEEBILS. NISER Vs CEBS: Fees & Scholarships
NISER: NISER Bhubaneswar provides an annual scholarship/stipend (NEST 2026 stipends/scholarship) of INR 60,000 (INR 5,000/month via INSPIRE/DISHA) and a INR 20,000 summer internship grant to all students admitted to its 5-year Integrated MSc courses. NISER Bhubaneswar fees for 5-year Integrated MSc programmes are less than INR 20,000 per year for General/OBC categories (INR 10,000 for SC/ST).
CEBS: The annual fee of CEBS Mumbai for the 5-year Integrated MSc Programme is less than INR 20,000 excluding mess charges.
All students admitted to the CEBS through the NEST route are eligible for the DST-INSPIRE or DAE-DISHA scholarship during the first year. The continuation of the scholarship in subsequent years will depend on performance and will be governed by the rules framed by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) / Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, from time to time. At present, a student receives a scholarship of INR 5,000 per month and a summer internship grant (mentorship cost) of INR 20,000 per year.
All students are entitled to receive a book grant of INR 6,000 per academic year. Each academic year comprises two semesters: i) Autumn Semester (August to November) and ii) Spring Semester (January to April). There is also a provision for a merit-cum-means scholarship for eligible students.
