Everything You Need to Know About IISER Admissions 2025
Imagine a place where science isn’t just studied—it’s lived, breathed, and reimagined. That’s what the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) were built for. From the coastlines of Thiruvananthapuram to the heartland of Bhopal, these premier institutes—Berhampur, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Tirupati, and beyond—are redefining how we think about interdisciplinary science.
And if you’re aiming for a front-row seat to that revolution? You’ll need to clear the gateway: the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2025.
Let’s break it all down, step by step.
Stay Tuned!
The IISER Admission Process:
Mark your calendar: Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 9:00 AM. That’s when the IAT goes live across the nation. It’s a computer-based exam, and yes, it’s your golden ticket.
But here’s the twist—unlike many traditional entrance processes, you won’t need to submit your IISER preferences while filling out the exam form. Save those choices for after the results drop. Counselling? Entirely online. Zero travel. Just your screen, your results, and a series of choices that could change your future.
Once your rank is out, you’ll be asked to list your preferred IISERs. Offers will roll in based on:
- Your IAT 2025 rank,
- Your category (General, EWS, SC/ST, etc.),
- The availability of seats, and
- The order of your institute preferences.
Got an offer? Great! You’ll now need to either accept or let it go. No response by the deadline? You’re out of the game—harsh, but true.
If you’re offered a seat and want to accept it while hoping for a better one, you can choose:
- Float – Stay in the race for your higher preferences.
- Freeze – Lock in your seat and breathe easy.
One big rule: You must act in every round. No FLOAT or FREEZE selected? You’re automatically considered as having withdrawn. No exceptions.
Oh, and if you FLOAT and later get your dream IISER? Your previous seat vanishes. Like magic. But real.
About Seat Acceptance Fee:
Once you’ve got that golden offer, you’ll need to pay up:
- General/OBC/EWS/PwD/KM: ₹35,000 (₹25k refundable + ₹10k admin fee)
- SC/ST: ₹17,500 (₹12.5k refundable + ₹5k admin fee)
No payment = no seat. It’s that simple.
Eligibility Criteria – Are You In?
Here’s what it takes to qualify:

- Class XII (or equivalent) passed in 2023, 2024, or appearing in 2025—with science stream.
- You must have taken at least three of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
Certain courses—like the BS-MS in Computational and Data Sciences at Kolkata, or the B.Tech at Bhopal—require Mathematics in Class XII.
Minimum marks?
- SC/ST/PwD: 55% aggregate.
- Others: 60% aggregate.
(And yes, all subjects in Class XII count—no cherry-picking!)
