Candidates can check the IAT 2026 opening and closing ranks for round 1 counselling in this blog.

The IAT 2026 exam was conducted on June 7, 2026, for admission to undergraduate science, research, and specific engineering courses offered by the participating institutes.

During the IAT 2026 counselling process, candidates must choose the institutes and programmes they wish to pursue. These institutes and programmes should be arranged in order of preference, from the first choice to the last. Details of the institute and programme allotted to the candidates will be announced through the IAT 2026 Seat Allotment Process on the official website, iiseradmission.in.

Many students appearing for the exam for the first time find it difficult to understand this process. Therefore, this SciAstra blog simplifies it by providing detailed information about the IAT 2026 Seat Allotment, including the seat allotment schedule, the steps involved in the process, and the IAT 2026 opening and closing ranks.

What is IAT Seat Allotment?

IAT Seat Allotment is the process through which seats are allocated to candidates in the participating institutes based on their performance in the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) and the preferences they submitted during counselling.

After completing the counselling registration and choice-filling process, the admission authority prepares a merit list using candidates' IAT ranks. Seats are then allotted according to several factors, including the following:

  • The candidate's IAT rank.

  • The category under which the candidate has applied.

  • The candidate's preferences of institutes and programmes were filled during counselling.

  • The availability of seats in the participating institutes.

  • The IAT seat allotment results are generally released in multiple rounds.

Candidates who receive a seat offer must log in to the admission portal, accept the allotted seat within the specified deadline, and pay the required Seat Acceptance Fee to confirm their admission. Those who are not satisfied with the allotted seat may choose to participate in subsequent rounds of seat allotment, subject to the counselling guidelines.
